Celebrity Cruises has initiated construction of Celebrity Edge, the first ship in its revolutionary new Edge Class at the STX France shipyard in St Nazaire.

The company expects delivery of Celebrity Edge in the fall 2018. Celebrity Beyond, the second vessel in class scheduled for delivery in spring 2020, and the third and fourth Edge Class ships are scheduled for fall 2021 and fall 2022, respectively.

Celebrity Edge will feature a vertical axe-bow design as well as a blue hull. Also note the ships funnel with the trademark ‘X’ head on. However, a major alternative to cruise industry standard staterooms is the new Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda – essentially a balcony and stateroom combined providing for 23% larger staterooms.

Another feature will be the so called “magic carpet”. This is a platform designed to scale all 16 decks providing access to the pool area at maximum elevation, a restaurant during the evening when it descends to deck 5 and which can then be lowered to deck two and become the tender platform.
